The Girls final included 2 students from Cape Cornwall and 2 from St Ives. The eventual winner was Kayleigh Trevarrow from St Ives with Holly De Fifield from Cape Cornwall a close runner up. Kayleigh showed huge potential absolutely tearing the waves to shreds!

In the Boys under14’s final the very talented Seb Smart from Cape Cornwall took 1st place with Ryan Roberts from St Ives in 2nd Place. Seb shone throughout the whole event. During the semi final he got a lovely cover up and threw buckets of spray everywhere.

The Boys under 16’s final included 3 students from St Ives, 2 from Mounts Bay and Christian Jackson ‘ripping it up’ from Cape Cornwall as the eventual winner. The overall team event was very closely won by Cape Cornwall with St Ives as runners up. Full list of results below.

The prizes were very kindly donated by Natural Balance. A huge thankyou must also go to Julian Mander from St Ives Bay Holiday Park for providing such a fantastic venue for this great contest.

The Annual Penwith Schools Surfing Championships took place on Tuesday the 19th September. All five Secondary Schools took part in the competition, with sixty competitors in all. The competition was blessed with blue skies and challenging head high surf with moderate offshore winds. There was an individual and team competition with the team competition closely contested right up until the final with only 1 point separating the 1st and 2nd place schools.

The event ran from 10am – 4.30pm and was split into Boys Under 14’s, Boys Under 16’s and a separate Girls competition. The standard of surfing this year went through the roof with BSA Judge Tony Goode commenting that ‘the standard was as good in the finals as many of the national junior events’.

James Davidson (Partnership Development Manger) said “The event was a great success and was the climax of a hugely successful 10 week surfing programme funded by The Big Lottery and expertly delivered by Shore Surf School. We can only hope to make it 3 years in a row of classic surf and weather next year. Future plans include incorporating more sports into the day and also challenging Penryn Sports Partnership to an Inter Partnership competition”.
